Wild Card Watch: Federer Eyes Return to Monte-Carlo
Monte-Carlo, Monaco - The world's brightest stars of tennis will descend upon the prestigious Monte-Carlo Country Club from April 6-14, 2024, for the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, the first of three clay-court ATP Masters 1000 events.
Among the highlights of the 2024 tournament is the potential return of Roger Federer. The Swiss maestro, a four-time champion in Monte-Carlo, received a wild card for the 2024 edition, marking his first appearance at the tournament since 2014. Federer, who won his last Grand Slam title at the 2018 Australian Open, has been sidelined for much of the past year due to injury.
Other top stars expected to compete in Monte-Carlo include defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, 2022 French Open finalist Casper Ruud, and world No. 1 Novak Djokovic. The tournament will also feature a strong contingent of Spanish players, including Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and Pablo Carreño Busta.
The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters is one of the most prestigious events on the ATP Tour. First held in 1897, the tournament has been won by some of the greatest players in history, including Nadal, Federer, Björn Borg, and Ivan Lendl.
