Manchester United Win First Trophy in Five Years with Carabao Cup Triumph
Manchester United ended a five-year trophy drought with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
Erik ten Hag's side took the lead in the 33rd minute when Casemiro headed home Luke Shaw's cross. Marcus Rashford doubled United's advantage in the 39th minute, finishing off a flowing move involving Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho.
Newcastle gave United a scare in the second half when Javier Manquillo pulled a goal back in the 56th minute, but the Red Devils held on to secure their first piece of silverware since winning the Europa League in 2017.
The victory was a huge boost for ten Hag, who has overseen a significant improvement in United's form since his arrival last summer. The Carabao Cup is the first of what United will hope is many more trophies to come under the Dutchman's leadership.
