Tornado Alley: Where the Storms Roam

A Region of Extreme Weather

Tornado Alley is a vast and unpredictable region of the central United States and Canada where tornadoes occur with alarming frequency. While the exact boundaries of Tornado Alley are not clearly defined, it generally encompasses the central and southern Plains, stretching from northern Texas and Oklahoma northward into Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota.

A History of Devastation

Historically, Tornado Alley has been the breeding ground for some of the most devastating tornadoes in North American history. The Tri-State Tornado of 1925, which tore through Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana, remains the longest-tracked tornado on record, with a path length of nearly 360 miles. In 2011, the Joplin, Missouri tornado reached EF5 intensity and claimed the lives of 161 people. Just a few years later, in 2013, the Moore, Oklahoma tornado caused widespread destruction and resulted in 24 fatalities.

The relentless force of tornadoes in Tornado Alley poses a constant threat to life and property. As a result, residents of the region must remain vigilant and prepared for potential emergencies.
