Piastri to Make F1 Debut with Alpine in 2023
Alpine Secures Rising Star After McLaren Dispute
Oscar Piastri, the highly sought-after driver at the center of a tug of war between McLaren and Alpine, has finally secured his seat on the grid. Alpine announced on Tuesday that the 2020 Formula Renault Eurocup champion will join the team for the 2023 Formula 1 season.
Piastri's arrival at Alpine comes after a prolonged legal battle with McLaren, who also claimed to have a contract with the Australian driver. The FIA's Contract Recognition Board ultimately ruled in Alpine's favor, paving the way for the young star to make his F1 debut with the French team.
Piastri's signing is a major coup for Alpine, who view him as a future world champion contender. The 21-year-old has impressed in the junior categories, winning the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2021 and finishing as runner-up in Formula 2 this year. He will now have the chance to showcase his talent on the F1 stage amidst huge expectations.
