Deadly Crashes in Lorain County

Two Separate Incidents Result in Fatalities

Elyria, Ohio - October 25, 2023

Authorities in Lorain County are investigating two deadly crashes that occurred within hours of each other. At approximately 12:34 pm on May 11th, a collision on the Ohio Turnpike near Elyria claimed the life of 63-year-old Kenneth Schmidt. Schmidt was traveling northwest on a 2008 Harley when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.

Just hours later, another fatal crash occurred on State Route 301 south. A 68-year-old Elyria man riding a 2015 Yamaha FJR motorcycle was killed in the incident. The cause of this crash is still under investigation.

Both crashes remain under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The names of the victims have not yet been released.
